Dual Cast Control Defined

On the 7500's the right side knob should stay tight for the reasons you mentioned, adding or removing the brass shims in the end caps is basically the only way to center the spool on these reels because there is no rubber o-ring on that side to keep the end cap on once loosened. Adjust the spool tension with the left knob. Dual cast control simply means: it has centrifugal braking (brake blocks on the right side of the spool) and the mechanical spool tension control on the left side plate that applies pressure to the spool spindle which in turn slows it down. In the 7000 class Abu reels the spindle is actually part of the spool, any tension applied to the ends of it really slows it down (see setting spool tension in the 5500/6500 Mag Tuning topic above, its basically the same in this instance as with setting up the CS Mag). If you want or need to make the reel faster you need to remove two of the brake blocks, if you still want it faster go to smaller or fewer blocks and/or a lighter viscosity oil. Smoothie Drag Washers are also a nice upgrade.
