Shipping Rates & Policies

Our shopping cart runs off of a .cgi script program and bases it's shipping calculations by total US Dollar amount of the items you have ordered. The program calculates as outlined in the chart below and your order is then automatically placed in the most popular shipping category for that subtotal. At checkout, please select the US Postal Service shipping option you prefer. If you select a different option than the one you've been placed in by the script, we will manually update your invoice (up or down) once we've had a chance to review it. We will then email you a new revised total reflecting any updates.

Please remember, the first email invoice you receive is computer generated within seconds of the time you submit your order and does not reflect any updates. Your card will not be charged until Hatteras Outfitters personnel have actually reviewed, approved and/or updated your invoice. In instances such as excessive weight, length or international orders for example, we will also need to manually revise your S&H accordingly.

After careful consideration, and even though it's a little harder on us, we still believe the good ol' US Postal Service offers the best combination of value, speed and dependability for the majority of our customers. Therefore, most all orders (except custom rods) will be processed as quickly as possible and ship via the USPS.

1st Class Uninsured - (U.S. Customers Only - normally 2-5 days)
$0.01-$75.00=$6.95 min. (1st Class Uninsured, up to 13oz. max.)
75.01-unlimited=7.95 min. (1st Class Uninsured, up to 13oz. max.)

All U.S. orders weighing over 13 oz. will be revised up to "Priority Uninsured" if your original shipping selection was "1st Class Uninsured". For example, we do not sell any reels that weigh less than 13 oz., therefore "Priority Uninsured" is the least expensive class any order containing a reel can be shipped.

$21.00 min.= priced on case by case basis by order total, weight and zone. You can normally expect to pay $10.00-$15.00 more than the cart generated cost shows.


International Uninsured - (International Only - normally 4-9 days)
$0.01-$75.00=$8.95 min. to 3oz, goes up from there. (International Airmail Letter Uninsured, up to 4 LBS max. or International Airmail Parcel on orders over 4 LBS) can not be insured
75.01-unlimited=9.95 min. to 5oz, goes up from there. (International Airmail Letter Uninsured, up to 4 LBS max. or International Airmail Priority on orders over 4 LBS) can not be insured


Fishing Rods
All Factory Built Rod Orders (one rod) are $18.00 min. S&H (your invoice will be manually adjusted accordingly)
All Custom 2pc Rod Orders (one rod) are $35.00 S&H (your invoice will be manually adjusted accordingly)
All Custom 1pc Rod Orders (one rod) longer than 9' are a min. of $49.00 S&H (your invoice will be manually adjusted accordingly)

We do not ship C.O.D.

NOTE: Insurance is not available on international orders. While we have never had an international shipment not arrive at it's final destination, nor had one damaged to our knowledge, we are unable at this time to insure shipments leaving the US. Therefore, we can not be responsible in the unlikely event of lost or damaged orders. We will, however, on the day of shipment supply you with the ship date as well as the Customs Declaration # on your order to aid us in tracking it down if we need to.

Purchaser assumes all risk of loss or damage to uninsured orders. If you do not wish to accept that risk you must select an insured shipping option on the checkout page. Note: Insurance is not available on international orders.

While more accurate, this formula is still not an exact science because of the variety of products we offer. The program has no way of knowing if you have ordered a rod, reel, sinkers, etc., or a combination thereof. Therefore, there are special circumstances when we will need to manually adjust your S&H up or down based on the items ordered. For instance, our custom rod builder is in a different location and has no way of shipping a reel you may have ordered at the same time you ordered the rod and we will have to ship them separately. The reel box would not fit in the special protective PVC tube we ship custom rods in anyway.

Another (example only) would be if you ordered 50, 8 oz sinkers at $1.00 each for a total of $50.00. That order would fall under: "$0.01-$75=$6.95 min. (1st Class Uninsured, up to 13oz. max.)" above but would weigh 25 LBS and cost considerably more than $6.95 for us to ship, not to mention it is above the 13 oz max. allowed for 1st Class Mail. That example can work in reverse as well, for example. You order 10 sets of ceramic bearings at $40.00 ea for a total of $400.00. The program would put you in the "300.01-500.00=16.95 (Priority Insured)" category but your revised S&H would be considerably less than that, especially if you selected "1st Class Mail Uninsured" and your order came in under 13 oz.

The main instances where we will need to manually adjust your S&H cost are these:

SHIPPING RATES FOR ROD ORDERS
Due to the higher cost associated with packing and shipping fishing rods your S&H charge on ALL Rod orders will be revised as follows:

FACTORY FISHING RODS
$18.00-$25.00 (depending on rod length and number of rods ordered) Your order will be shipped Airborne Express Ground or USPS Priority Insured. While we will attempt to ship any other items in your order in the same container with your rod(s) this is not always possible and you may incur an additional charge for those items if they have to be shipped separate. To see what that charge is likely to be, order those items first and note the S&H tally "before" the rod is added to your shopping cart.

CUSTOM FISHING RODS
$35 and up (depending on rod length and number of rods ordered, shipping a 1pc rod 10' or longer is quite expensive, most others are $30.00 for 1 rod) Your order will be shipped Insured Airborne Express Ground or FedEx Second Day. Since our rod builder is in a different location it is impossible to have other items in your order shipped with the rod. To see what the S&H charge is likely to be for those other items, simply order them first and note the S&H tally "before" the rod(s) is added to your shopping cart. Upon request an appointment can be made to pick up your rod if you will be in the VA Beach area and wish to save on the S&H.

PAYMENT FOR CUSTOM FISHING RODS
We do not except credit cards on custom rod orders. You must pay by check or PayPal. We normally have a 3-4 week backlog on getting a custom rod built and shipped to you and that period of time begins the day we receive your payment. Please be prompt getting your payment in.

ORDER PROCESSING PROCEDURE
Once we receive your online order for processing we will, using the guidelines outlined herein, update and email you a "Revised" Invoice showing any updates, questions we might have concerning your order, payment confirmation, ship date and tracking information. In most cases where a revision is necessary you will normally receive this revised invoice or notice of back ordered items within 24 hrs of placing your order. Please check your email frequently for updates if your order falls in one of the mentioned categories where revision or answers to questions are required. The first "email" confirmation you receive from an order you placed online is electronically generated and DOES NOT reflect any revisions or updates unless you placed your order by phone. PLEASE "CAREFULLY" REVIEW ALL EMAIL INVOICES you receive as we can not be held responsible for incorrectly input orders, shipping addresses, email addresses, ph. numbers, etc.

Phone Orders: After placing an order by phone, usually the first email invoice you receive will be your final invoice, along with payment confirmation, ship date and tracking confirmation. There are instances, however, where we will need to contact you for more information concerning your order, so please remember to check your email, you may also catch any mistakes we might have made before the order ships.

If you do not receive an email confirmation of your order, no mater how it was submitted to us, it is usually because you either input the wrong email address online or we got it wrong when you gave it to us on the phone. If you did not receive an email confirmation or something on the order confirmation you receive is incorrect, please contact us immediately by email or PH: (804)329-8400 and we'll be more than happy to attempt to send you another one and/or make any necessary corrections.

SNAIL MAIL & EMAIL ORDERS
PLEASE DO NOT ORDER THIS WAY! We are not set up to take orders in this manner and it usually takes much longer to get your order to you than it will if you order online or call it in: (804)329-8400.

NOTICE OF REVISED INVOICE
In instances where there is a large discrepancy in a revised total Vs the original total on your invoice: We will try and give you 24 hours to respond back before charging your credit card and shipping your order so please, carefully enter your email address on the checkout page and then double check it as we can not be responsible if you don't receive the original invoice, revised invoice or confirmation of your card charges because of incorrectly entered email addresses. You may not have a chance to cancel the order if you feel the revised charges are too high. As a result, if your card has been charged and the order has shipped and you decide to cancel it you will be responsible for return shipping as well as insuring the returned items. A 15% restocking fee and the original S&H charges will be deducted from any credit due to you.

BACK ORDERS (B/O)
While we try to keep all items listed in the online store in stock, there are occasions when that is not possible. In most instances we will ask you if you would like the balance of the order shipped now and the B/O item(s) shipped when they come in or whether you prefer to wait and have them all shipped together in order to avoid additional S&H charges. Another reason to make sure you have correctly input your contact information and to check your email after receiving the original computer generated email confirmation.

DROP SHIPPED ORDERS FROM THE MANUFACTURER
In some instances we have the manufacturer drop ship your order, or a part thereof, directly to you. In the event you have ordered additional items that we have in stock, there may be a separate S&H charge manually added to your order once we receive it to cover the additional shipping that may be required.

CUSTOM ORDERS
Since most of our custom items are built to order you will likely be charged at the time the order is placed Vs just before shipping as with most other items. Custom Rods and Reels are built in the order they are received. The delivery date depends on our current backlog of each. Most custom reels go out within 1-2 weeks but it can take longer during peek times of the year. We usually have a 3-4 week backlog on custom rods but it can, at times, take a little longer. The only way we can guarantee you a quicker ship date is to charge an "overtime/rush fee" of $15.00 for custom reels and a $30.00 fee on custom rods, so PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY. Keep in mind, there are instances when we will be unable to "rush" your order at all.

CONFIRMATION OF CREDIT CARD CHARGE
If your order does not require revision the next email you will receive after the automatic computer generated order confirmation is a confirmation from our card processor informing you that your card has been charged by us, for which order and for what amount. Unless you have custom items on your order this confirmation usually means your order will be going out that day or the next. All orders with custom items listed will be charged at the time of the order.

TRACKING YOUR ORDER
You will receive a final email from us on the day your order is packed and ready for shipping. This email will show the date your order is scheduled to ship along with your tracking information.

IF PAYING BY CHECK OR PAYPAL
The first email confirmation you will receive is computer generated, on "all orders" where you will be paying by check or PayPal YOU MUST WAIT for us to send you a second "human-being" generated order confirmation via email before sending in your check or PayPal payment. This will help prevent shipping delays as well as you possibly having to send in another payment because of any revisions that may have been required. If you send in a PayPal payment to us before we send you that second confirmation and we are charged by PayPal, you may be subject to said charges in the event a refund is issued. You may also overpay in the event your order total would have been manually revised downward. In this case and cases where you send a check before receiving the "confirmed" invoice, there will be no refunds credited. So please, wait for us to review and send you that "second" email confirmation before sending your payment.
