TOURNAMENT CASTING RULES & REGULATIONS

SECTION 1. - SANCTION
All tournaments held under the auspices of SPORTCAST USA shall be sanctioned.
To qualify for a sanction, a club must be a member in good standing of SPORTCAST
USA. Annual club membership fee shall be twenty dollars, ($20) . Tournaments
are to be held on the dates sanctioned by SPORTCAST USA. Clubs seeking an
official team tournament sanction shall schedule at least two (2) standardized
events:
Conventional or spinning tackle Men's 5.25 oz. event.
Conventional or spinning tackle Women's 4.5 oz. event.
Individual tournaments shall be sanctioned by SPORTCAST USA. All casters
shall be members, in good standing, of SPORTCAST USA. Annual caster membership
shall be twenty ($20) dollars USA. Membership will be due the first of January
for the following year. (18 year of age and under will be complimentary.)
All sanctioned tournaments must be conducted in accordance with the rules
contained in Section 1 through 9.
SECTION 2. - OUTFIT
A. CONVENTIONAL TACKLE:
Rod: There shall be no restriction upon length or on the material used in
its construction.
Reel: Must be able to be used for fishing, but must have a standard factory
manufactured spool.
B. SPINNING TACKLE:
Rod: Same as for conventional tackle.
Reel: To contain a spool that is fixed during the cast. Must be able to be
used for fishing, but must have a standard factory manufactured spool.
C. LINE:
Running Line: All casters shall use line of no less than .31 mm. test in
all events. The line shall be of the same diameter and parallel throughout
the entire length and must be High Visibility line.
SHOCK LINE: To be no less than .75 mm. test in all events, for all casters.
At least five (5) turns of shock leader must be around the spool of any reel
before any cast shall be attempted. Shock leaders shall be parallel throughout
their entire length, and have an approved line clip to attach the casting
weight.
D. CASTING WEIGHTS:
Men shall cast a 5 ¼ oz. weight, of a design approved by SPORTCAST
USA, in all team events.
Women shall cast a 4 ½ oz. weight, of a design approved be SPORTCAST
USA in all team events.
Men shall cast a 5 ¼ oz. weight in an individual long cast event.
Women shall cast a 4 ½ oz. weight in an individual long cast event.
All weights shall have the size clearly marked and may not be altered by
cutting, shaving, filing, or excessive polishing.
SECTION 3. - EVENTS
A. TEAM
A team shall consist of no more than (5) casters.
Each caster shall make five casts for the team.
The team that totals the greatest combined distance shall be declared the
winner of this event.
In the event of a tie between teams, each member of each team shall make
one cast. The team whose five casts total the greatest distance shall be
declared the winner.
Measuring will take place after each round of casts.
B. INDIVIDUAL LONG CAST
Each man shall make five (5) casts with a 5.25 oz. casting weight. Each woman
shall make five (5) casts with a 4 ½ oz. casting weight. Only the
longest cast of the five (5) will be considered for awards.
Junior casters, 12 to 18 years of age, shall make five (5) casts with a 4.5
oz. casting weight. Sub-Junior casters, under the age of 12, shall make five
(5) casts with a 2 oz. casting weight. Only the longest cast of the five
(5) will be considered for awards.
Sub-Junior casters, under the age of 12, shall make five (5) casts with a
2 oz. casting weight.
Kids Class, from birth to 6 years of age, shall make five (5) casts with
a 2oz. casting weight. Only the longest cast of the five (5) will be considered
for awards.
In the event of a tie, each caster in the tie shall make one (1) cast with
the longest declared the winner.
C. ALL EVENTS:
A caster in any event may cast with the outfit of his/her choice; spinning
or conventional tackle.
Each caster shall choose the desired tackle when registering for an event
and may not change for the duration of the event.
No re-entries are permitted in any event.
SECTION 4. - FIELD
A. GRADE: The grade of the casting field shall not exceed eight (8) feet
in eight hundred (800) feet.
B. CASTING COURT: A thirty (30) degree casting court will be used at all
tournaments. The casting court shall be laid out in the following manner:
· A base pin shall be driven in the ground and a centerline extended
as necessary. From this pin, sidelines shall be extended out at a fifteen
(15) degree angle from the centerline to the same length as the center line.
At 100 meters (328 feet 10 inches) the field will be 51.76 meters (169 feet
9.75 inches) wide. We will use a casting mat 8 feet 2.5 inches by 8 feet
2.5 inches square, with an 8 feet 2.5 inches by 3/4 inch by 4 inch board
set at cast line.
C. CASTING ZONE: There shall be a safety zone established in back of the
base line. This zone shall be fifty (50) feet deep for a distance of a least
one hundred and fifty (150) feet on each side of the centerline and be clearly
marked. No person shall be allowed inside this safety zone except the one
that is about to cast.
SECTION 5. - MEASUREMENT OF CASTS
A. All casts will be measured by the radial method directly from the center
of the base line. If a full length tape is not available, measurements may
be made from cross lines set at 100 feet intervals. These lines shall be
set in an arc from one sideline to the other. The measuring tape shall be
set at a 90 degree angle to the arc of the cross line. An electronic measuring
device (E.M.D.) may be used.
B. All casts shall be measured to the farthest extremity of the lead weight.
All casts shall be measured as they are found.
C. A steel or fiberglass tape or an E.M.D. shall be used to measure all casts.
D. PENALTIES:
Break-off will be scored as "zero". A break-off occurs when any line breaks
after the power phase of a cast has begun until the casting weight has come
to rest on the ground.
A base line foul shall result in a fifty (50) feet deduction from the measured
length of the cast. A caster has fouled when any portion of his/her body
touches the ground ahead of the base line.
A casting weight landing outside the sidelines shall be considered as out
of bounds. All casts determined to be out of bounds will be scored a "zero".
SECTION 6. - METHODS OF CASTING
A. All casters shall cast forward from behind the base line in a designated
area. No caster shall pass this base line while in the act of casting and
until the casting weight has landed.
B. It shall not be permitted to make any cast with a power stroke of more
than 360 degrees or any cast that is determined by the tournament officials
to be dangerous.
C. Each caster will be given a number for each event. A caster will be called
to cast in numerical order and must do so unless excused by a tournament
official.
D. After a cast is completed, a caster must place his/her rod on the ground
ahead of the base line or in a designated area set aside by tournament officials.
E. No person, except an official, may precede the caster as they follow their
lines to reach their casting weights.
SECTION 7. - JUDGING/PROTESTS
A. Judges shall be appointed to call fouls, out of bounds casts, and to measure
casts. All decisions made by these judges shall be final in all cases.
B. The SPORTCAST USA board may be called upon to appoint delegates to represent
them at all sanctioned tournaments. It is their duty to see that all conditions
of casting conform in every way to the rules of SPORTCAST USA; to protest
or receive protests of any action that may seem to be unfair or unequal;
to report any infraction of the tournament casting rules.
SECTION 8. - RECORDS
A. The only records recognized by SPORTCAST USA are those made at the sanctioned
tournaments authorized by SPORTCAST USA.
B. A copy of tournament records must be sent to SPORTCAST USA within seven
(7) days after the date of the tournament, and the other copy retained by
the sponsor club.
C. Separate records shall be kept for men and women in all tackle categories.
SECTION 9. - AWARDS
A. A caster must be a member, in good standing, of SPORTCAST USA to be eligible
for any SPORTCAST USA award.
B. TEAM: There may be an award given to the top three (3) Men's teams and
Women’s teams at each sanctioned tournament.
C. INDIVIDUAL LONG CAST: There may be awards given to the top three (3) casters
in each class at each sanctioned tournament. Classes shall be as follows:
NEW CLASS
Master class: 725ft average and above
Men's 5.25 oz.:
Class - Average Cast
AAA - 650 feet and over
AA - - 550 feet to 650 feet
A - - - 450 feet to 550 feet
B - - - 350 feet to 450 feet
C - - - 0 feet to 350 feet
Women's 4.5 oz.:
Class - Average Cast
A - - - 400 feet and over
B - - - 300 feet to 400 feet
C - - - 0 feet to 300 feet
Sub/Senior Division Casters 55 years to 65 years.
Seniors 65 to 75 years of age
Senior/Senior 75 and older.
